Inter-School Debate Competition 2026

DWPS Noida Extension proudly presents the Annual Inter-School Debate Competition on January 25, 2026. This prestigious event brings together the brightest young minds from schools across the region to engage in intellectual discourse and showcase exceptional oratory skills.

Event Details

Date: Saturday, January 25, 2026
Time: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Venue: School Auditorium
Entry: Free for all (registration required for participants)

Competition Format

The competition will be conducted in three categories based on grade levels:

Junior Category (Grades V-VII)

  • Format: Individual speeches (3 minutes each)
  • Topic: “Technology in Education: Boon or Bane”
  • Participating Schools: 12 schools
  • Time Slot: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Middle Category (Grades VIII-X)

  • Format: Two-person debate teams
  • Topic: “Social Media Should Be Banned for Teenagers”
  • Participating Schools: 10 schools (20 teams)
  • Time Slot: 12:15 PM – 2:15 PM

Senior Category (Grades XI-XII)

  • Format: Parliamentary debate style
  • Topic: “This House Believes That Climate Action Should Take Priority Over Economic Growth”
  • Participating Schools: 8 schools (16 teams)
  • Time Slot: 2:30 PM – 4:00 PM

We are honored to have an eminent panel of judges for this year’s competition:

  • Dr. Rajesh Khanna – Former Principal, Delhi Public School, Professor of English Literature
  • Ms. Anita Desai – Award-winning Author and Poet
  • Mr. Vikram Seth – Journalist and Public Speaking Coach
  • Adv. Priya Sharma – Supreme Court Advocate and Debating Champion
  • Prof. Ashok Kumar – Head of Communication Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University

Competition Rules & Guidelines

General Rules:

  1. Each team must register online by January 20, 2026
  2. Topics may not be changed or modified
  3. Use of notes is permitted but discouraged
  4. Electronic devices must be switched off during presentations
  5. Time limits will be strictly enforced with warning signals
  6. Judges’ decisions are final and binding

Evaluation Criteria:

  • Content & Arguments (40 points): Logical reasoning, factual accuracy, depth of analysis
  • Delivery & Presentation (30 points): Clarity, confidence, voice modulation, eye contact
  • Language & Expression (20 points): Vocabulary, grammar, eloquence
  • Rebuttal & Response (10 points): Addressing opponent’s arguments effectively

Prizes & Recognition

Category Winners:

  • First Prize: Trophy + Certificate + ₹10,000 cash prize
  • Second Prize: Trophy + Certificate + ₹7,000 cash prize
  • Third Prize: Trophy + Certificate + ₹5,000 cash prize

Special Awards:

  • Best Speaker (Overall): Trophy + Certificate + ₹5,000
  • Best Rebuttal: Certificate + Book voucher worth ₹2,000
  • Rising Star Award: For outstanding junior participant
  • Participation Certificates: For all participants

Guest Speaker

The event will feature a keynote address by Mr. Shashi Tharoor, Member of Parliament, Author, and Former UN Under-Secretary-General, on the topic “The Art of Constructive Debate in Modern Democracy.”

Spectator Information

Parents, students, and members of the public are welcome to attend as audience members:

  • ✓ Entry is free (no registration required for audience)
  • ✓ Auditorium seating capacity: 500 persons
  • ✓ First-come, first-served basis for seating
  • ✓ Photography allowed (without flash)
  • ✓ Live streaming available on school website
  • ✓ Refreshments available in school cafeteria

Schools wishing to participate should:

  2. Registration deadline: January 20, 2026
  3. Registration fee: ₹500 per team
  4. Submit participant details and school authorization letter
  5. Receive confirmation email with competition guidelines
